Dr. Crainick and pet

Dear Valued Clients,

As pet insurance becomes increasingly popular, we understand how important it is for pet owners to receive the maximum benefits from their insurance coverage. We know how frustrating it can be when a claim is denied or an unexpected expense is not covered, and we genuinely sympathize with those situations.

We would like to take a moment to clarify our hospital's policies regarding medical records and pet insurance claims.

At Markham Woods Animal Hospital, we are legally and ethically obligated to maintain complete, accurate, and truthful medical records for every patient in our care.

This means that:

  • All medical information shared with our team โ€” including previous illnesses, injuries, symptoms, medical concerns, and relevant conversations โ€” must be documented in your pet's medical record.
  • We cannot intentionally omit medical information from a patient's record, even when requested out of concern that it may affect insurance coverage.
  • We cannot remove, alter, or rewrite previously documented medical information for the purpose of obtaining insurance reimbursement or avoiding a claim denial.

These policies are not simply hospital preferences. Accurate medical records are essential to providing safe, consistent veterinary care and meeting our professional and legal responsibilities.

Intentionally falsifying or misrepresenting medical information to an insurance company can constitute insurance fraud and may carry serious legal consequences for both veterinary professionals and pet owners.

Please understand that these policies are never intended to make obtaining insurance reimbursement more difficult. Our responsibility is to advocate for your pet's health while maintaining the integrity of their medical history.

We are always happy to provide copies of medical records, clarify documentation, correct legitimate factual errors through appropriate procedures, and assist with the information needed to submit an insurance claim. However, coverage decisions ultimately rest with your insurance provider.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, honesty, and trust in our team. Our goal will always be to provide exceptional veterinary care while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. If you have any questions please reach out to us 407-682-3233 or [email protected]

Warmly,

Dr. Marianne Janosco & Dr. Nichole Crainick
